Goldfish Diseases

Anchor Worm

Anchor worm is a disease that causes worms to attach themselves to Goldfish, creating a visible wound.

Symptoms of Anchor Worm

The most obvious symptom will be a change in behavior. Affected fish will sometimes rub against objects to try to remove the infestation. Wounds with a red ring around them might also be visible, and in extreme cases, part of the worm itself may be visible as a white coloration.

Causes of Anchor Worm

The condition is caused by a parasitic worm which infests poorly-maintained water. The worm burrows into the skin of the Goldfish, and most commonly attaches itself to the base of the fins, though it can also be found in other areas

Treatment of Anchor Worm

Rapid treatment is essential. The fish will need to have the worms hand-removed by a qualified person. Until treatment can be carried out, quarantine infected fish to prevent the parasite from spreading.
