Goldfish Diseases

Flukes

Flukes, more specifically body or gill flukes are yet another common parasitic infection that can affect Goldfish.

Symptoms of Flukes

Behavior-wise, your Goldfish may appear aggitated, and badly affected fish may be seen gasping at the surface of the water. Other signs include a slimy coat, fins that are glued together, and ulcers.

Causes of Flukes

Fluke infections occur when poor water conditions allow flukes to hatch, which then attach themselves to Goldfish in the tank.

Treatment of Flukes

Treating the tank using salt is the first step, but this will only reduce the problem, not cure it. Seek expert advice and in the meantime clean out the tank, ensuring that the larvae have been removed, to prevent repeat incidents.
